– Cap convex, often with a flat center, white to off-white, as it matures, cracked into large sparse scales.
– Cap margin strongly inrolled, often even in older specimens.
– Gills very dense, light gray-pink, turning brownish-black with age.
– Stem white, cylindrical, shorter than the width of the cap, tapered at the base.
– Ring thin, somewhat upward standing, collar-like.
– Flesh white and compact, reddening when cut, with a pungent, unpleasant odor.

Ecology
Grows in coastal meadows and dunes, also common on roadsides where salt has been spread.
Notes
Not toxic but not considered a culinary mushroom either.
Similar species
May resemble Agaricus bitorquis, but it has a double ring and a different odor.
