Characteristics

- Cap expanded to funnel-shaped, matt and felted when young, smooth when older, reddish-brown to dark brown.
- Gills decurrent, forked, strongly orange-coloured.
- Stem often thin, orange-brown, paler than the cap.
- Flesh thin, orange-coloured to pale yellow, with mild taste.

Ecology

Grows on or beside decaying stumps in coniferous forest. Rare.

Similar species

Identical to Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca except for the dark brown cap colour.
