– Cap initially bell-shaped to convex, later more plane, often with a slight umbo, brown to yellow-brown, lighter brown-yellow when dry.
– Gills adnate to decurrent, beige to light brown.
– Stem light brown, darker towards the base, with a thin ring.
– The entire stem is covered with thin vertical white fibers that easily disappear upon touching.
– Has a faint, flour-like odor and taste.

Ecology
Grows on conifer wood, sometimes deciduous wood, in forests, on stumps, bark and wood chips along jogging trails etc.
Notes
Deadly poisonous, contains amatoxins, the same toxin found in the Death Cap and Destroying Angel (Amanita phalloides and A. virosa).
Similar species
Kuehneromyces mutabilis is usually larger, has protruding scales on the stem, and grows in clusters on stumps of various deciduous trees. There are several similar brown-spored and inedible agarics.
