Characteristics

– Cap convex to expanded, umbilicate, dry, scurfy, violet, fading in dry weather.
– Gills adnate to slightly decurrent, violet.
– Stem thin-fleshed, violet, often pale longitudinally fibrillose.

Ecology

Grows mainly with oak and beech in deciduous forest, but also occurs in coniferous forest.

Notes

Sometimes stated as edible, but may contain elevated levels of arsenic and is therefore not recommended as an edible mushroom.

Similar species

The only species in the genus with violet colour over the entire fruitbody.
