- Cap convex to expanded, golden-brown, dry, matt, covered with a fine granular powder.
- Gills adnexed to adnate, pale, soon becoming brown from the spores.
- Stem the same colour as the cap, often wrinkled.
- Ring broad, upstanding, granular on the underside.
- Flesh whitish with a faint and pleasant smell of bitter almond.

Ecology
Grows in lawns, ditches, parks and churchyards, often on calcareous and nutrient-rich ground among nettles.
Notes
A large and striking species considered edible in some countries, but since mild poisonings are known, it is not recommended as an edible mushroom.
