Characteristics
Ecology
Grows with oak and beech in deciduous forests and parks, often on calcareous and clayey soils.
Notes
Sometimes reported as edible but so rare that it is not recommended for mushroom picking.
Similar species
The similar B. subappendiculatus that grows with spruce has a paler cap, more rounded stembase, longer more narrower spores and red KOH-reaction on the cap.
