Characteristics

- Cap dry, matte, pale brown to yellow-brown, bright red with KOH.
- Tubes yellow, faintly bruising blue.
- Stem yellowish-white to pale yellow, with a concolorous network, usually without a tapered base.
- Flesh witish to pale yellow, not bruising blue or very faintly so.
- Taste and odour mild.

Ecology

Grows with spruce (Picea) and Abies in coniferous forests.

Notes

Not edible.

Similar species

B. appendiculatus grows with oak and beech, and has a more pointed stem base, shorter spores, and reddish-brown KOH reaction on the cap.
