Characteristics
Ecology
Grows with beech in beech forest in the southern parts of the Nordic region, also in planted beech forest north of the natural range of beech.
Notes
The acrid taste makes Russula fellea inedible. It can cause temporary stomach upset but is not dangerously poisonous.
Similar species
The striate cap margin, combined with the honey-yellow cap colour and growth in beech forest, are good field characters for the species.
