Characteristics

- Cap convex, brown-yellow to reddish-brown, slimy in wet weather.
- Tubes yellowish-white when young, often with droplets of liquid, yellow when older.
- Stem whitish-yellow, above with small granular pale dots that become brown with age.
- Flesh yellowish-white, with mild taste and smell.

Ecology

Grows with pine, often along forest roads, preferring more calcareous ground.

Notes

Edible and good, should be collected in dry weather when it is not so slimy. Peel off the cap cuticle before preparation, and use only firm specimens for food.

Similar species

Suillus bovinus has a foam-rubber-like texture and darker tubes, edible.
Suillus luteus has a ring on the stem, good edible mushroom.
